Shop local. Find what you need near your home.
Shop online. Use the internet to bypass traffic jams and to reduce single occupant auto trips.
Telecommute. Occasionally work from home, or at a location near your home.
Go “multi-modal”. Combine 2 or more modes of transportation to get where you need to go. Example: Ride your bike to the light rail station, and complete your journey by train.

More than a quarter of U.S. trips are 1 mile or less.These trips present an excellent opportunity to convert a car trip into a walking trip. Take a walk, get some excercise, reconnect with your neighborhood, and get your errands done at the same time.
